Vidal Sassoon cutting Mia Farrow's hair for her role in Rosemary's Baby |
Yesterday Vidal Sassoon passed away at the age of 84 in Los Angeles. He was a profound inspiration to us at Elite Hair Studio. He will be missed and his work and creative genius will forever be remembered.
With his revolutionary hair styling for women, pioneering sleek, geometric and precise cuts, he inspired whole generations of hairdressers and designers. "His designs have shaped the late 20th Century," Richard Martin and Harold Korda, curators at Metropolitan Museum of Art, wrote in the introduction to the 1993 book "Vidal Sassoon, Fifty Years Ahead." He brought "modernism to the medium of hair," they wrote.
Vidal spun off a whole industry around Sassoon products, salons and teaching academies. We at Elite Hair were very much inspired by seminars at the Sassoon Academies in Santa Monica, Chicago or in London and we met so many talented and creative designers there. We were always highly anticipating the newest collections that the Sassoon designers put out. There is an incredible dedication to the work and design that was initiated by Vidal over 50 years ago when fashion editors in London first took note of his "Mary Quant bob".
Marta was honored that she was able to contribute to the newest collection, the Tribe III. Pictured below is Marta with her model at the Sassoon academy in Chicago.
